About WB-CSIRT
In view of the threats emerging in cyber world, the Governments have established administrative machinery for proper readiness, response and prevention. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) is the apex body in the country, established as per Section 70B, Information Technology Act, to act as national agency for Incident Response and Cybersecurity. Similarly, NCIIPC is another statutory body under Section 70A IT Act for the protection of Critical Infrastructure.
As per guidelines issued by CERT-IN, the States would set up state level CERT organisation to deal with similar problems within the respective territorial jurisdiction of the States. Such state level CERTs would work in collaboration with CERT-IN to respond to the threats. Government of West Bengal has set up the first such state level CERT in the country named West Bengal Cyber Security Incident Response Team (WB-CSIRT) on 21.12.2020.
WB-CSIRT responds to cyber incidents; assists in mitigation and prevention; takes steps for ensuring the readiness of the organisations; coordinates with Government Departments and Offices; builds capacity in the state; develops required plans and standard procedures; conducts exercises, drills, and conferences; collaborates with other cybersecurity agencies including CERT-IN, NCIIPC and State/Sectoral CERTs; and leads in the crisis situations for proper incident response and recovery.
