Director's Message

Cyberspace has become very important for conducting different activities by the people today. Be it commerce, business, education, banking and finance, personal communication, or any imaginable human activity requiring some collaboration, the cyberspace is the backbone. Governments have given thrust to the e-Governance to reach out to the citizens and serve them better. Cyberspace also hosts the vast amounts of information and data belonging to the people and organisations.

Therefore, the bad actors also more actively prowl in that space in pursuit of their illegal activities like stealing assets and data, committing cyber frauds, causing harm to people, causing chaos in the society, abusing of children, and so on. Bad actors also attack the public infrastructure deliberately to cause disruption and disturbances in the society. Conflicts among the State actors also spread to cyber domain as Cyberattacks against each other. National security in today’s World is not complete without taking care of Cyber dimension.

The need of the day is proper readiness and capacity building within the organisations across the length and breadth of both the Government and private sector. High degree of priority needs to be given to cybersecurity in all the organisations. Citizens also need to be well aware of cyber hygiene to protect their personal assets and data. There has to be a plan ready to face any crisis situation.

WB-CSIRT, under the guidance of Department of Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal, and in collaboration with other stakeholders and agencies, is working constantly to ensure the safety of the organisations and people in cyberspace.

Volunteers and experts are also encouraged to write to us for any contributions.
